CPR & First Aid for Health Care Providers (PTN 150)

Work in health care, or want to? No matter what health care job you’re getting, you’ll probably need a Basic Life Support card. This American Heart Association-approved course consists of adult, child, and infant CPR and First Aid, and an overview of AED procedures. Class meets OSHA and WISHA requirements. The Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support and the First Aid cards are valid for two years. Recertify with us!

You must pay for the class and pass both the written and skills exams to receive your certifications.

Students must read, write and understand the English language well enough to pass a written exam.

Class meets in Building 31.

NOTE: A $2.00 Credit/Debit Card processing fee may be added to the course fee.

 Program Description

This program is designed to develop basic phlebotomy skills for blood collection and safe handling. Are you a currently employed health care professional interested in expanding your skill set? Students will learn proper technique and order of draw for venipuncture, using a variety of collection methods (syringes, vacutainers and butterfly needle). Student will also learn proper techniques for collecting blood specimens using finger and heel sticks. Students will have lab time to practice their skills on other students in a mock laboratory setting.  This is a hybrid course. The theory portion is delivered online, which includes the 7 hours of HIV/AIDS training required by the State of Washington. Lab times will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 - 7:00 pm in Building 21, Room 227

This is a basic skills course for health care professionals currently employed in the field. There is no clinical component included in this course. 

Course Fee - $620

Beginning October 2017, the course fee will include a supply kit required for the course.  The cost of the textbook varies (used, new, or rent) excluded. The full fee or verification of third-party payment is required at registration.  Contact the Continuing Education office for information regarding financial assistance.

Steps to Register

Pre-registration with Workforce Development Office is the first step in registering for the Phlebotomy Program (Phleb 120) at Clover Park Technical College.  The instructor's permisson is required to complete registration with Enrollment Services.  Payment is required at registration. Seats will not be guaranteed without full payment or verification of third-party payment.


  • Attendance at a regularly scheduled information session is required to obtain instructor's signed permission to register.  Information sessions are held Lakewood campus, Building 21, Room 227.
  • At least three months of work experience and/or formal training in a healthcare field.  Students must provide documentation of work or training in the first week of class.
